Yoga Club
The yoga club continues to have good attendance and maintains its popularity. Some of our young people who have been ‘regulars’ to the club for a considerable length of time have been working on ‘peer teaching’ and leadership. This gives them an ideal opportunity to show their skills to others, as they work hard to demonstrate and explain the postures and movements, along with other aspects of yoga practice. They should all feel proud as they have shown a responsible and caring attitude, and are reliable and committed to what they are doing. They are finding it to be an exciting venture and have taken ownership of the club, although Mrs. Lindley is always present.
The younger children benefiting from this are from Classes 2 and 3, as we have ‘paired’ the young teachers with new members to the club, who are consequently receiving personal tuition and re-assurance. Three new children who joined our school in September have also received a warm welcome to the club, and are regular attenders. Presently, the group of teachers meet on a Wednesday lunch time in order to participate in activities, including planning their programme of movements in readiness for leading the following day i.e. Thursday lunch-time.
Yoga engages the children’s imagination, as many of the postures have the names of animals or things which we see in nature, such as ‘The cat’, ‘The cobra’ or ‘The tree’. Also the relaxation aspect which is included in each session has proved over the years, to be very popular and beneficial for children of all ages. Many participants enjoy the fact that it is a non–competitive activity.
