We have English and Mathematics lessons every day.

Our homework is usually given out on a Friday and has to be returned on a MOnday or Tuesday except for our spelling homework, which is handed out on Monday and has to be returned on Friday.


Each term in year six has a main topic.

Autumn Term
Who were the Ancient Greeks?
We will learn about the lives of everyday and famous Greeks. In P.E. they will re-create the ancient Olympic Games. In Art we will make Greek style urns in 2D and 3D. In Geography we will learn about pollution and tourism in Modern Greece and compare their information to Heckmondwike. In Design and Technology we will learn about pulleys and leavers and use our knowledge to re-create a weapon invented by the famous Greek—Archimedes. In ICT we will create multimedia presentations about the Greek theme.

 


Spring Term
I love Pizza!
In Design and Technology, we will learn how to make a healthy pizza and use a Computer Aided Design (CAD) program and a vinyl cutter to make a pizza box. In ICT we will create spreadsheets to simulate the accounts of a pizza shop. In Geography we will learn about Italy and pizza businesses and in Art we will design a hat for a worker in a pizza restaurant.
Children will begin their preparations for Year Six SATs in English, Mathematics and Science.


Summer Term
Learning from the past: planning for the future
In History we will learn more about the Ancient Greek people and how they influence our lives today. In Art we will learn about drawing in perspective and creating 2D and 3D landscapes.
In Design and Technology we will design and make a new school bag suitable for use in Year 7. In Geography we will learn about the environment and think of some solutions to the problems our planet faces in the future. In ICT we will learn about how computers can control devices. In RE we will learn about respecting people with different religions and about who gives us guidelines for living.

 


During Year 6 there are many challenges and opportunities. Children will spend a lot of time preparing for their end of Key Stage 2 national tests (SATs) and preparing for the transition from primary school to secondary school. During year 6 their will be opportunities for children to take part in leading roles for the Christmas production and leavers’ assembly. There will also be a trip to Chester Zoo and Cliffe House to look forward to.

 

 

 

Transition to Key Stage Three
