Arts council used to recommend £175 per day, however, this has been removed from their website, any advice?

Artists fees depends on many things; the working day, their experience, how many days work and how much planning is involved. Usually the maximum contact time with children in school is 5 hours so you have to take into consideration lots of variables, does the artist work after school with the staff  and plan, deliver inset or run an after school club . I tend to look at it as a teacher on supply and how much experience they have. An experienced artist that is recognised nationally/regionally tends to get paid £200 per day including planning and any additional meetings. An artist that has who has less experience may get paid £150 per day, however, if you are offering an artist a weeks work then you may come to a discount and pay artists per week of a fee for the whole job. Which ever way you look at it you must ensure you have a contract and it is clear on what is expected of the school and the artist. It’s important that all are happy with what has been agreed.
